Current through 2012:

  • Digital Campfires Press, a division of DCF is extending it's digital publishing into the rapidly expanding Smartphone app development market.  More info may be found at Digital Campfires Press.
  • Added surplus Smartphones to the list of needed donations.  Project in early stage of leveraging Smartphones computer technologies to help build a connected learning community without the need for cell phone services.
  • Now offering managed webinar services through DCF's GoToWebinar/Meeting license.  Generally free to non-profits on a resource available basis. 
  • We are developing a Vinterns (Virtual Interns) program for rural business partners.  Vinterns leverage a range of online collaboration tools to provide value/price competitive digital media content development services.  Game development, mobile websites, native iOS and Android apps, virtual worlds and augmented reality design are among our Vintern skill sets.  Please contact  john (at) digitalcampfiresfoundation (dot) org for details.
  • We are in the final stages of completing anEvergreen Income Streams website that provides un-biased information about generating continuing non-MLM income streams for entrepreneurial professionals with careers in transition.

January 2006:

  • Delivery of first load of surplus computers to SHARE Wisconsin warehouse

June 2006:

  • Application submitted to become a Microsoft Authorized Reseller

July 2006:

  • Digital Campfires Foundation website activated with new DCF logo.
  • Twenty computers formatted with Ubuntu operating system

October 2006:

  • University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee donated 24 computers to SHARE Wisconsin.  The computers will be built around the Windows 2000 operating system and Open Office. 
  • The Peoples Resource Center in Wheaton, Illinois,  furnished the software and the development of the hard drive image for duplication.
  • The Digital Campfires Foundation received Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) status.  This permits DCF to offer computers with licensed copies of Windows 2000 sofware and to become part of a national organization of computer refurbishers.  For more  info about the MAR program please click on the following banner:
December 2006:
  • DCF has created a presence in Second Life, an online immersive environment with more than 2 million participants.  Visit the Second Life website at www.secondlife.com for more information.  TechSoup is developing a region for non-profits that will include DCF.
  • Planning is underway for refurbishing 25 computers for SHARE volunteers.  Computers will be imaged during the first week of January in the SHARE warehouse (please see photo gallery for warehouse images).   Basic computer operation training for SHARE volunteers will take place the second week of January.  Everyone participating in the training will receive a computer system.
Fiscal year: 2007:
  • Setup and refurbished 25 computers
  • Picked up 100 monitors donated by DCI Marketing, Milwaukee
  • Computer training workshops for SHARE volunteers, distribution of newly refurbished computers
  • Explored shipping reburbished computers to Kenya, Africa
  • Started a Bits & Bytes Club chapter at SHARE Wisconsin
  • Opened up a DCF office in Minneapolis, MN
January through December 2008:
  • Began partnership with the Minneapolis Twin Cities Entrepreneurs
  • Opened second business office in Minneapolis, MN
  • Extended services to include grant application consulting for non-profits and small businesses
  • Created a DCF presence on the Aloft  Island in Second Life
  • Developed three Second Life workshops for educators, non-profits and businesses
  • Incorporated as Digital Campfires Foundation, Inc., with plans to pursue 501(c)3 status
  • Developed an advisory board/board of directors
  • Began work on a 5 years development plan
January through December 2009:
  • Formed Digital Campfires Press to provide sustaining income source for Digital Campfires Foundation
  • Began work with Corporate Refugees to provide opportunities to brush up on their business computer skills.
  • Created a channel on YouTube highlighting blended learning modules produced by Digital Campfires Press.  (www.youtube.com/ed2itive)
  • Began publishing eReader content for Kindle and Apple iPod, iPhone, available on Amazon.
  • Closed the DCF presence in Second Life on Tech Soup's Non-profit island
January, 2010
  • Focusing on grant development for non-profits and small business
  • Partnering with Corporate Refugees.org, helping professionals with careers in transition
  • Sponsoring Career Re-Discovery, a Meetup based organization in Milwaukee, WI
  • Developing a monthly series of free webinars focused on topics of interest to non-profits

  • Moving away from refurbishing computers, toward using recycled technologies to enhance collaboration and business development for rural communities.

  • Closed out our corporate refugees re-careering activities in Milwaukee and Minneapolis
  • Closed our career discovery MeetUp groups and related websites
